I bet the bread you tasted was based on a biblical "recipe" from the Old Testament: Ezekiel 4:9. Apparently, in the preceding verses, God was instructing Ezekiel to put on a symbolic siege of Jerusalem (no, I have no idea why) and instructed him in verse 9:

"Take wheat and barley, beans and lentils, millet and spelt; put them in a storage jar and use them to make bread for yourself."

God goes on to instruct Ezekiel to eat it for 390 days while lying on his left side (apparently to bear the sin of Israel.) He further instructed Ezekiel, in verse 12 to bake the bread using human excrement (no, I am not making this up) but then gives in to Ezekiel's objections and allows him to use cow excrement.

Let's hope your new friends didn't take this all *too* literally.

I've been enjoying following your travels... nice blog!

I know what you mean about the scientologists in Hollywood.., I lived and worked there (as security on Hollywood Blvd) for a few years. While off duty one evening, my wife and I were just strolling along Hollywood Blvd. and one of those nutjobs passing out flyers grabbed her arm - he ALMOST got decked. I got right in his face and said, "Get your hand off of her NOW, or I'll break your nose."

He let go pretty quickly, and stammered an apology, which kind of surprised me. They're very aggressive and arrogant.
