Our April fuel bill was low because we didn’t go anywhere. Now that we’re moving, we are paying about $124 a tank.

The near future is definitely here. We were talking to a friend of ours about that just the other day; he is betting that before the end of this year, something catastrophic will happen that will give the government the impetus to declare martial law and turn the entire nation into a police state. We shall see.

Nuclear disaster, yeah. I used to have nightmares about it all the time.

Ouch. Fuel prices are just insane anymore. Over the last 2 weeks, we put over a thousand miles on the truck at a whopping 12 miles per gallon. The price of oil has doubled in the past year; the price of fuel has gone up a third and the oil companies are raking in record profits.

The ‘near future’ cyberpunk novel I am pretending to write is coming at us faster than I can put it on paper. Still, I guess it’s better than the eminent nuclear disaster so many of us grew up dreading.
